Sew broken
Does anybody know how to fix my stupid sewing machine? It's so very broken. It won't pick up the bobbin thread, and keeps tangling the upper thread underneath the plate. Matt looked online and said he thought the timing was off, whatever that means. I called several places to try to get it fixed. The cheapest one was $60.00! My whole machine isn't even worth that much! It's an older model Brother that I got for Christmas when I was 18. Maybe I'll just get a whole new machine, because mine hates me! Any recommendations?

My Mom (Shauna) just had hers fixed, the way I understand it, it is expensive and worth it if you have a nice machine. But if you don't maybe it is worth investing in a new one? Good luck!
Yeah, I'm going to go with Nicole on this one. Fix it if it is a GREAT machine and/or has sentimental value. Otherwise sell it (on Craig's List with the "issues" noted) and get a new one.
I had an old hand-me-down Baby Loc that was Priscilla's MIL's, and it worked great for a while. But then it totally started to just jam every.single.time I used it! So I just sold it and bought a new one...couldn't be happier.
I know that one thing that can really mess up machines here in AZ is all the DUST that can get in and screw things up. Try taking a can of compressed air to it and maybe one of those little brushes for the more stubborn dust in the crevices. Check the manual for info on how to keep it oiled (a can of $5 oil is way less than $60) and then see how it goes. And it may be as simple as the tension being off, especially if it can be changed manually (a tiny bump here, tiny helping hands there, and the tension gets off after a while). Again, check your manual for how to change that. Good luck! And hey, if all else fails, it'll be fun picking out a new machine! =)
If you get a new machine try Costco. They have a lifetime warranty on all their stuff. My friend had a machine she got at Costco and after 7 years of owning it the needles kept breaking for some reason so she took it back. Thye accepted it and she got a new one!!!!!!
I'm going to have to go with everyone else and say it's time for a new one! I got mine on Overstock.com for about $60, it was refurbished, but it has worked really well for me so far, no major troubles. If you need a machine in between time, feel free to borrow mine, I haven't been using it very much lately!
